Bridal Tiaras - An Age Old Tradition

Almost all the traditions that we know of today that have been practiced for years and years have a historical story behind them. That's because they have been practiced for so long so they come with an interesting story of how they originated in the first place. The same can be said for weddings. A lot of the aspects that we practice during the wedding or the things used during the wedding ceremony have a short interesting story behind them. Even for little items like bridal tiaras or wedding tiaras.

Now bridal tiaras or wedding tiaras are probably small items that you wouldn't think would have a history to them but they actually do. Brides have been using bridal tiaras or wedding tiaras since time immemorial. The purpose of wearing them in the first place is to give the wearer a sense of being someone important, and for those who see the person adorning the tiara, it indirectly signals that the wearer is someone important or special, or that they are going through something special on that day - like a wedding ceremony maybe.

In ancient history, only people of importance or people in power wore tiaras, like the gods, ancient Egyptian pharaohs and kings to signal their importance. When one wore a tiara, it showed everyone else that this was someone of great importance, something they could look up to, and more importantly, this was someone in power. In France, important members of the French court were known for wearing tiaras adorned with lace and jewels to symbolize their importance.

The Story of The Tiaras

Tiaras slowly came to be used more and more as the years progressed. Later on the popularity of the tiara would spread to ancient Rome, Greece, Assyria and soon all over the world into what we have today - bridal tiaras or wedding tiaras. The tiaras that we use these days started making an appearance and becoming more popular roughly around the 1800's in Europe and brides today wear them as a showcase of elegance and regality even.

Bridal tiaras or wedding tiaras were traditionally given to the bride the day before her wedding by her father. The tiara would be a magnificent sight to behold, adorned with diamonds and precious stones like gems which made the tiara sparkle and enhance the beauty of the bride on her wedding day. The tiaras would also be adorned with diamonds, because diamonds are the ultimate symbol of perfection plus, they do say that diamonds are a girl's best friend and diamonds are forever, which is perfect for the wedding.

When picking out the bridal tiara, like everything else about the wedding, there are a few things to keep in mind when making your selection. First of all, think about the kind of dress you will be wearing on that day and make sure that the tiara is something that will go together well with your beautiful wedding dress. Especially keep this tip in mind if you are planning to pick out a tiara that has a little color in them or with some decorative gemstones and jewels that have some color in them. There is nothing that can ruin an outfit more than something, even if it is just one little item, that does not go together well.

Tips On Selection

Next, keep in mind the kind of jewelry you will be wearing on that day. The tiara also falls under the jewelry category and you don't want to appear too dressy or too flashy on your wedding day by overdoing the jewelry. This means, that if you are wearing fancy jewelry, then keep your wedding tiara simple and elegant and vice versa. The overall look you are aiming for is simple elegance and your jewelry should aim to achieve that, including the tiara.

And another tip you should remember is the kind of hairstyle you are going to be wearing on that day. The tiara has to compliment the hairstyle too and make sure it doesn't overshadow your hairstyle, or outdo your hairstyle. The perfect balance is something that is neutral and succeeds in making your hairstyle appears elegant.

There are a lot of tips to remember when picking out your tiara but these three are probably the most important out of all that you absolutely have to remember, even if you forget the rest of them. These three tips are the key to getting the perfect tiara for you, and when it comes to something as important as your wedding day, you don't want to be forgetting anything.
