Wedding Cake Toppers - The Centerpiece of A Wedding Decoration

Probably one of the symbols and figurines we are most familiar with that sit on top of large, extravagant wedding cakes are the wedding cake toppers or cake toppers, whatever you want to call them. The simple figurine of the bride and groom representative of the real thing has been on top of many wedding cakes and they will continue to be on top of many wedding cakes because they have become so familiar that a wedding cake without a topper would look almost peculiar.

The use of cake toppers on the wedding cakes we have today have a history which they can be traced back to. The history of these toppers goes as far back as the 19th century and it is widely agreed by most that they first started increasing in popularity around that period of time. The toppers are the perfect miniature symbol of the bride and groom and they are placed at the very top of the wedding cake for all to see, and as a way of showing the attending guests that the bride and groom are now united as one happy couple when they cut the cake together.

Wedding Cake Topper Design

The wedding cake toppers traditionally featured the bride and groom, and the bride and groom figurines could be just the couple holding hands, or in any other varied positions which they might prefer. Variations of these cake toppers only started to expand recently beginning in the 1990s, before that it was just the traditional toppers which you would commonly find. But like everything else in today's modern society, these toppers too have expanded and evolved over time to suit the bride and groom's needs and preferences.

In fact, as the options of varied figurine poses for the bride and groom expanded, so too did the option of having other types of cake toppers instead of the traditional bride and groom. Some options which have become acceptable replacements are cupids, cherubs, doves, horseshoes, silver bells and lovebirds to name just a few. Like everything else, one element of evolution which can plainly be seen from the old days and today's modern day is the fact that these toppers can be personalized like every other aspect of the wedding.

Personalized Cake Toppers

For couples who opt to personalize their cake toppers, there are a few things they would need to consider before getting the topper made. First, they would have to think about what sort of topper would best represent them. For example if they are sports fanatics, the topper could be done in a more sporty fashion to suit them, or if they are the artistic type of couple, then the topper could be customize to reflect that about them.

Or another way they could go about it is to choose a topper which would reflect the plans, or hopes and dreams they might have for their future. Say for instance they have a dream about travelling the world together, then the topper could be customized in a way that would reflect that. Or if they have a dream about owning a beautiful home of their own in an exotic location, the topper could be done to suit the dream that they have.

The cake toppers could even be done in a way that would reflect what the couple had to go through to be with each other. Some couples had a rough time before they could get married and be with each other happily and the topper could be a way of telling the guests - and reminding themselves and their families - of the hurdles and struggles they had to overcome just to reach that point and how these have made them the couple that they are today.

There are plenty of ways for the couple to make the cake toppers they will use for their wedding cake as personal and as unique as possible. These unique toppers will later be kept as a memento of the day and you would want to have something that best represents you which you and your spouse can remember and look back on in years to come.
